Communication Protocol
In the event of hazardous weather conditions or other emergency circumstances, CHA may need to temporarily close for safety reasons. Families will be notified promptly through several methods:

- Emergency Closing Center. As soon as a decision is made to close school, CHA will report this to the Emergency Closing Center, a public service that publishes all reported Chicago area school and other institutional closings. Families are encouraged to go directly to the ECC webpage using the link above to get the most current information. Drawing from this data, local TV and radio stations (WBBM, WGN and WLS, CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, CLTV, etc.) announce or scroll Chicago area school closings. Christian Heritage Academy (Northfield) will be included in these lists if a decision is made to close.

- Text Message. As soon as a decision is made to close school, a text message will be sent to CHA household parents/guardians via the mobile number the school has in Veracross.

- Email. As soon as a decision is made to close school, an email will be sent to through Veracross to the Email1 field in each parent/guardian’s record. This email is also readable through the Veracross Parent Portal.

Hazardous weather conditions in Chicagoland can vary from area to area. If a parent determines that the roads are unsafe to travel to school, parents may elect to keep their student home. Absences and tardies due to hazardous weather will be excused. Please call the CHA Front Desk at 847-446-5252 by 9:00 AM to report the delayed arrival time or absence.
After School Activities
All after school activities, programs, sports and games (except for tournaments) will be cancelled on the day(s) of an emergency school closing.
Emergency Closing During a School Day
In the rare event that school must close during the school day, CHA will contact families via text message. Supervision will be in place until all students have been picked up.

Wondering how CHA determines school closure? Here’s our policy:
Normally, school and school office closures will follow the lead of area public schools according to information available on the Emergency Closing Center website.
In the case of severely cold weather, CHA will typically close the school temporarily when either (a) wind chills are predicted at -30°F or lower and wind speeds are predicted at 10 mph or greater or (b) the actual temperature is listed at -15°F or lower.
When making school closure decisions, administrators must not only consider Northfield weather and conditions but also consider conditions in all areas in which families live.
Short-term school closure is communicated broadly to the CHA community, using the following three communication methods when possible: mass text, email, website alert.

CHA’s Bylaws spell out the primary functions of the Board: The affairs, business and all legal matters of the Corporation shall be managed by its Board of Directors, including responsibility for strategic planning, policy making, fundraising, budget oversight, spiritual leadership and directing the Head of School. The Board of Directors shall help set the spiritual tone for the school. Members of the Board of Directors shall individually and corporately pray for the administration, faculty, staff, parents and children of the school. They will be inclined to prayer, ever mindful of their own dependence upon God for His grace and wisdom manifest in their leadership.
